Premium Software Licensing

21 December, 2023

Every WordPress website contains software plugins. Some of these are free to use and will update themselves free-of-charge, just like WordPress itself. WordPress received three major updates in 2023 in addition to many more incremental updates.

Other plugins are premium commercial offerings that require a license after their first years use in order to receive updates. These premium plugins won’t stop working after their license has expired but it is good practise to keep software updated – particularly if you are accepting instant payments through your website.

Keeping plugins updated fixes problems, shuts doors to malware threats, enables continued compliance with credit card payment regulations, and introduces new functionality that makes things easier for Owners and Guests alike. Starting at the beginning of the alphabet, the introduction of ApplePay and Automated Emails come to mind.

It can be extremely expensive to relicense plugins individually – we estimate it would cost about £250 per website. As part of our Managed Plan though this is all taken care for you.
