Software Updates
Make sure you update your website’s software to prevent issues and benefit from new features

Your website is based on the popular WordPress platform, used by the majority of websites you will find on the internet.
Like any WordPress website, your website will comprise multiple software programs from different software service providers. These will fall into the following three categories
WordPress itself
From time to time (4 times in 2024) WordPress will release Maintenance updates and new feature updates. These will contain bug fixes, security updates and feature enhancements.
It is important to auto-enable these updates to limit your website’s exposure to malware to keep things running smoothly.
Your WordPress “Theme”
Every WordPress website has a ‘Theme’.
This typically is a bare set of instructions that defines the structure of your website, but can also be a fully fledged page builder as in the case of BricksBuilder.
Your ‘Theme’ will also receive software updates from time to time. Sometimes to keep itself compatible to a recent WordPress update, other times to offer protection against security issues that may have come to light.
Your WordPress ‘Plugins”
Plugins are software programs, often developed by independent software companies and these form the lifeblood of the WordPress eco-system.
Plugins can be free-to-use or they can be commercial plugins that require a paid license each year in order to receive updates and support.
Whereas some websites may contain 50+ plugins, Owners Websites use a much smaller number of plugins to compliment our own coding. A typical holiday home website might have 5-8 plugins installed, however these should be updated when updates become available as these too could develop security issues.
Owners Websites use a mixture of free-to-use and commercial plugins.
All our commercial plugins are installed with a valid license for 12 months from the launch of your website. These commercial plugins should continue to work after their license has expired, but you won’t receive bug-fixes, new features or security updates if your plugin requires and does not contain a valid license.
